Springfield Post 176 erased a four-run deficit and pulled away for a 9-5 win over McLean Post 270 on Thursday at McLean High School. Henry Mahns delivered the biggest swing of the night in the sixth, lining a three-run single to break a tie and put Springfield in front for good before Calvin Colon added another RBI single to extend the lead.
McLean struck first in the bottom of the opening inning when Liam Palacios singled home two runs to give the home side a 2-1 lead. Nikhil Antil added an RBI single in the second, and Joshua Orr and Jason Seeber each drove in a run in the third as McLean built a 5-1 cushion. Springfield answered in the fourth, stringing together a walk, single, hit by pitch and ground out to force a 5-5 tie before the decisive sixth-inning rally.
Palacios led McLean with two RBIs, finishing 1-for-3, while Orr, Antil, and Seeber each had one hit. Shane Waldschmidt drew three walks as McLean worked eight walks overall. Springfield got a strong two-hit, two-RBI outing from Mahns, while Colon reached base twice on walks and, along with Mahns and Cooper Haley, was part of a Springfield group that kept pressure on McLean with the running game.
On the mound, Chase Nash started for McLean and allowed four hits and five runs over four innings, striking out two and walking two. Rocky Webster started for Springfield and gave up three hits and five runs over three innings, striking out three and walking six.
