About District 17 Baseball
District 17 Baseball is Northern Virginia’s American Legion Baseball home for ages 17–19—rooted in community, player development, and summer competition.
How the Season Works
District 17 Baseball delivers a full 20–30 game season of high-level competition — running from late spring through summer — featuring league play, local rivalries, and the District Tournament. Top teams advance for a chance to compete in the Virginia State Tournament and, potentially, the Mid-Atlantic Regional and American Legion World Series.
Games are played close to home, allowing players to represent their communities and compete alongside their high school teammates in front of family, friends, and scouts. Check out the official schedule for dates, locations, and live results.

Why District 17 American Legion Baseball Matters
Since 1925, American Legion Baseball
has emphasized character, team play, and citizenship—values that extend beyond the field. District 17 Baseball carries that
tradition in Northern Virginia with competitive play, quality coaching, and community support.
- Player development: reps against strong local competition with experienced coaches.
- Community connection: represent your high school area and play close to home.
- College exposure: college coaches and scouts regularly attend District 17 games.
- Accessible summer ball: high-level play without heavy travel commitments.
While most ALB players pursue careers outside of sports, some of today’s biggest stars—including Jacob deGrom, Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Bryce Harper, Kris Bryant, and Albert Pujols—frequently acknowledge that their time in Legion Baseball helped shape their competitive instincts and growth.
“I played American Legion ball back in high school. It was great, I had a great experience. It was kind of your first kind of experience into like what it's like to play real baseball, nine innings, real rules, and get to be with the guys and it was a great time. One of the best times ever.”
— Cal Raleigh, All-Star C
“It was a great experience. It took my game to the next level”
— Albert Pujols, All-Star 1B & Future Hall of Famer
“I played in Evansville (Ind.) Funkhouser American Legion Post 8. It was a great experience for me. I love Legion. It really kind of got me ready for pro ball … because you played a lot of games during the summer break, and there were no true practices because you played so many games. Legion was great (and) for my boys, it was good.”
— Don Mattingly, 6-time All-Star 1B & MLB Manager
"That was the fun part of summer ball with Legion. We just played. At that stage everything was so pure. I would 100 percent recommend it."
— Jim Thome, Hall of Fame 1B
“I’ll never forget getting to win the American Legion World Series and getting that excitement of being able to go to the World Series in 2008. That’s where I fell in love with playing every single day. It got me into this mode of wanting baseball to be my career. It’s worked out pretty well for me so far.”
— Paul Sewald, Cleveland Guardians pitcher, American Legion Post 76, Las Vegas
“If you wanted to play good baseball, it’s American Legion. It was a great experience. I loved my time in American Legion. It was good baseball. It was nice uniforms. It was real grass. The competition was real good. Everything was an upgrade in American Legion.”
— Brian Snitker, Atlanta Braves manager
