Chesapeake Wins Virginia’s Second American Legion World Series Title

Chesapeake Post 280 claimed Virginia’s second-ever American Legion World Series championship with a 9–3 victory over Idaho Falls, capping an incredible postseason run.

Chesapeake Post 280 has brought a national title back to Virginia, capturing the 2025 American Legion World Series in Shelby, North Carolina — the state’s first since 1961.

Behind standout performances from MVP Ethan Wilson and a balanced lineup that thrived under pressure, Chesapeake defeated Idaho Falls (Idaho) 9–3 in the championship game.

“This group believed in each other from day one,” said head coach Chris Hebert. “They played for their community, for Virginia baseball, and for each other. That’s what Legion baseball is all about.”

Chesapeake went 5–1 across tournament play, relying on deep pitching and a strong team identity forged during state and regional championships.

The victory marks only the second time in history that a Virginia team has won the American Legion World Series — a major moment for the program and the Commonwealth.

American Legion Baseball, founded in 1925, continues to be a proving ground for young athletes seeking competition, college exposure, and lifelong camaraderie.
