
Vienna Post 180 got three hits from Isaac Norman and three more from Sean Wilson in a 9-3 win over Falls Church Post 130 on Thursday at TBD. Norman doubled twice and singled, while Wilson also doubled as Vienna built the lead early and kept adding through the middle innings.
Vienna struck first with a three-run opening inning, taking advantage of an error that allowed Will Donohue, Sean Wilson and Norman to score. Falls Church answered in the top of the third, tying the game after a fielder’s choice by Matt Kiersz and a walk by Simon Rodham plated one run. Vienna responded right away in the bottom half when J.P. Moore’s fielder’s choice pushed across the go-ahead run for a 4-3 lead.
The home team added separation in the fourth and fifth. Wilson doubled home Norman in the fourth, and Norman added his second double of the game in the same inning. In the fifth, Norman’s single came in a two-run frame, and Moore followed with a triple as Vienna pulled away. Moore finished with a triple and two RBIs, while Norman drove in two runs and Wilson knocked in one.
Falls Church finished with nine hits of its own but managed only three runs, with Andrew McGee collecting a double and scoring a run. Simon Rodham and Matt Kiersz each drove in a run for Falls Church, and Anders Peterson also scored. The visitors put three hits on the board, but Vienna’s pitching limited them after the third-inning push.
Dawson Givens started for Vienna and allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits over 2 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking three. Ben Grimsley earned the win with 3 1/3 hitless innings of relief, striking out two and walking one, and Alex Ament finished the final inning. Brandon Duan took the loss for Falls Church, giving up six runs, three earned, on six hits over four innings while striking out five and walking two.
Vienna finished with nine hits and only one error, while Falls Church had nine hits and two errors. The win sends Vienna Post 180 on to District 17 playoffs Friday.
