Vienna Post 180 used a seven-run fifth inning to break the game open and went on to defeat McLean Post 270, 16-3, Tuesday at Oakton High School.

McLean Post 270 opened the scoring in the top of the second thanks to three singles. McLean Post 270 first got on the board when Saad Ali singled, scoring one run. Vienna answered in the bottom of the third to grab a 5-3 lead, using a fielder’s choice that brought in a run, a hit-by-pitch RBI for Kyle Robertson and a groundout that scored two more.

The decisive swing came in the bottom of the fifth, when Vienna sent seven runs across on six hits. An error scored one run, Daniel Killoran singled, scoring two runs, Jack Greene tripled, scoring two runs, Kyle Robertson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Sean Wilson singled, scoring one run. Vienna stretched the margin well beyond reach.

Vienna finished with 11 hits and kept pressure on the bases, piling up eight stolen bases. Sean Wilson, Rowan Moore and Jack Greene each had two hits, while Robertson drove in three runs despite going 1-for-1. Will Donohue drew two walks, and Noah Ramirez and Greene each swiped multiple bags.

McLean’s offense was led by Jack Kolsky, who went 2-for-4, while Ali, Jason Seeber and Kolsky each drove in a run. The visitors put together their best push early, but Vienna’s fifth-inning surge changed the shape of the game.

On the mound, Charlie Morgan started for McLean and allowed three hits and five runs, four earned, over three innings with three strikeouts and two walks. Ben Grimsley opened for Vienna and gave up six hits and three runs, all unearned, over four innings while striking out three and walking two.
