McLean Post 270 built an eight-run lead in the fifth inning and held on for a 9-7 win over Lorton Post 162 on Saturday.
Lorton Post 162 struck first in the opening inning when Mathias Alden grounded out to bring home a run. McLean answered in the third on Jack Kolsky’s double to move ahead 2-1, then broke the game open in the fourth with a six-run inning on three hits.
That fourth-inning burst included run-scoring fielder’s choices by Joshua Orr and Chase Nash, followed by Jason Seeber’s two-run double and Liam Palacios’ two-run double. Lorton kept pressing late and cut into the margin with a five-run rally that featured a single, a ground out, a double, another single and a fly out, but McLean had already done enough.
Seeber, Kolsky and Palacios each drove in two runs for McLean, while Seeber and Aidan Ryan finished with two hits apiece. Colin Adams drew three walks, and McLean as a team worked seven free passes and totaled 10 hits.
Lorton got a strong day at the top of the order from Talon Camacho, who went 3-for-5 and stole three bases. Mathias Alden led the way with three RBIs, and Jackson Naumovich and Noah Toy each added multiple hits. Lorton also swiped six bases in the game.
Shane Waldschmidt earned the win for McLean, allowing five hits and three runs over six innings with one strikeout and three walks. Gideon Toy started for Lorton and allowed three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out five and walking two, and Saad Ali finished with the save as McLean protected the lead to the end.
