Alexandria 24 seized control with a nine-run second inning and rolled past McLean Post 270, 12-2, on Sunday at TBD. Joey Qutub delivered the biggest blow in that frame with a two-run double, and Alexandria kept stretching the margin from there.

McLean got on the board first in the top of the second when Liam Palacios doubled on a 3-0 count. But Alexandria answered immediately in the bottom half, piling up nine runs on eight hits to flip the game to 9-1.

Alexandria added another run in the third after Cruz Reber singled down the right field line. The offense finished with 14 hits, with Avner Quigley, Qutub, Dylan Klotz and Reber each collecting two hits. Qutub and Reber drove in two runs apiece, while Andy Matthews, Klotz and Reber each stole multiple bases as Alexandria totaled 12 stolen bases.

Mac Halm started for Alexandria and worked four innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out six and walking four. McLean’s Liam Palacios started on the mound and gave up eight hits and nine runs, three earned, over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one. Nikhil Antil followed with three and two-thirds innings of relief, surrendering five hits and three runs, one earned, while striking out six and walking two.

At the plate for McLean, Saad Ali went 2 for 4, while Joshua Orr and Liam Palacios each drove in a run. McLean drew six walks, but Alexandria’s second-inning burst and traffic on the bases quickly took the game out of reach.

McLean Post 270 is scheduled to travel to Fairfax Post 177 on Monday.
